Alkaline Reset Cleanse

As the seasons begin to change each year I love to take some time to focus on a reset to set me up for the season ahead. There is not a cleanse or detox I haven’t tried at this stage ! Personally I love the intension of them , I clear my diary and focus on my wellbeing for 5/7 days.

I was first introduced to the concept of Alkaline eating , 10 years ago when I bought one of my first wellness books Honestly Healthy , Eat with Your Body in Mind, the Alkaline Way. My love affair with a holistic approach to wellbeing began. I excitedly bought my first juicer and began to make all the fresh veg juices smoothies & recipes . I dived into the principles of healthy eating and the identification of alkaline and acid-forming foods and the ways in which an alkaline diet can nourish the body without placing the digestive system under strain. I felt amazing full of energy , my skin & eyes were bright inflammation was down and I was sleeping really well.

Daily Juices & Smoothies have remained a loyal part of my daily diet. I love nothing more than a big green smoothie every morning. However over the past few years I haven't been as committed to my diet. Especially over lockdowns my diet was pretty much made up of take away and convivence foods. Routine went out the window and inevitably inflammation and weight gain crept in and I wasn’t sleeping well.

The Alkaline Reset Cleanse is a different way of thinking about the body and how we can rapidly replenish, heal, and reboot ourselves back to optimal health. The body's number-one goal is to maintain homeostasis and balance throughout our Five Master Systems: endocrine, immune, digestive, detoxification, and alkaline buffering (pH balancing). I had previously done this cleanse and felt amazing after it , post cleanse you intuitively want to eat better, the sugar cravings dissipate and you definitely make better choices.

It involves making behavioural changes that lead to sustainable and lasting weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. This style of eating focuses on nutrient-dense foods and eliminating processed foods with a focus on fibre and plants.

The Alkaline Reset Cleanse is a whole body reset for 7 days , eliminating all acidic inflammatory foods. It is 100% focused on abundance. An abundance of nourishment and nutrients. You don’t feel hungry. You don’t limit how much you can eat. You get TONS of goodness.

The premise is to give your body a total break from toxins and foods/drinks that unbalance and cause the body to have to work hard…while at the same time giving your body every tool it needs to repair, heal and regenerate.

During the seven-days of the cleanse you focus on eating alkaline juices, soups, and smoothies – all liquids – because they are the easiest to digest and efficient recipes for your body to extract and use nutrients from.

Here is a typical day on an alkaline cleanse:

6:30 AM – Warm lemon water & morning meditation & breathwork

8:00 AM - Turmeric & Coconut Tea

8-9:30 AM - 1 litre of water (hydration up to 2/3 litres a day)

9:30 AM - Antioxidant green smoothie – alkaline avocado based smoothie

10:00 AM Supplements – Ayurvedic supplements, Vit C , and omega 3 & 7

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – 1 litre of water (hydration up to 2/3 litres a day)

12:30 PM – Lunch: Warming Alkaline soup

13:00 PM – Herbal or ginger tea

14:00 PM – Green raw juice

14:30-15:30 PM – Final litre of water (hydration up to 2/3 litres a day )

16:00 PM – 2nd Antioxidant alkaline green smoothie

17:00 PM – Another cup of herbal or ginger tea

18:00 PM – Dinner – Alkaline Soup

21:00 PM – Bed - Read - Yoga Nidra

During the 7 days I loved the routine of each day , I prepared all the juices and soups daily. I never felt hungry. I had cut out coffee and wine the week before so managed to avoid headaches or crash symptoms of a cleanse. In the book Ross talks about how to prepare for the cleanse the week before I did this and it really helps. I woke up easily each morning , less groggy with a revived energy. I noticed a big shift in my sleep cycle by 9pm I was tired and I got into bed each night to read no TV no phones and slept better than I have in a long time. The Inflammation in my body has reduced and I lost 8lbs (3kgs) .. I still have a way to go and feel so good that I am going to continue the cleanse for another week. My sugar cravings have all but disappeared. My mood is more stable and can start to see a long gone glow returning to my skin and eyes.

Eating a diet that is hugely rich in nourishing vegetables and fruits, healthy fats, nuts, and seeds – ultimately eating as close to Mother Nature as possible, while eliminating or reducing man-made, processed, sugary, gluten-containing, chemical-laden foods staying hydrated, meditating and focusing on quality sleep just makes sense to me intuitively.
