Ayurvedic Ritual of Sleep

Description

A ritual to help you create a daily sleep practice. This calming Ayurvedic Sleep Ritual and accompanying Yoga Nidra Meditation will soothe both body and mind to allow you to drift off into a restorative deep sleep.

The Concept

Self-care is an essential part of becoming your best self. The ancient art of Ayurveda teaches us that nourishing our unique pattern of energy channels is key to a balanced life. Our Ayurvedic Ritual of Sleep is based on ancient Ayurvedic and Yoga Nidra teachings, the ultimate healing consciousness of sacred rest enjoyed by ancient yogis. The key to success is repeating the ritual each night, making it part of your daily routine, a part of you.

The founder of Sleep Alchemists, wellness expert Suzie Beggan, has curated your ritual based on ancient practices founded in Ayurveda and Yoga. As a yoga and meditation teacher, Suzie wanted to create space for you to easily access a practice that inspires a moment of self-care and will promote sleep and relaxation through the practice of Yoga Nidra , breathwork and aromatherapy.

The Ritual

At Sleep Alchemists self care is at the heart of everything we create – our core value is for you to take time for yourself and create sacred space.

Begin your ritual by lighting your sleep dharma candle for approx. 30 mins before you sleep. take a warm bath or shower and when you immerge practice Abhyanga (self-massage ) with your Ayurvedic sleep dharma oil when your skin is warm.

Abhyanga Self Massage Ritual

Lightly pinch and stretch your earlobes and apply the oil all over the ear as it is home to many vital energy point or marma points and nerve endings.

Massage your back by using your left hand for the right side and vice versa.

For your arms and legs, use long strokes. The first stroke should be away from the heart (anulom) and them coming back towards it (pratilom).

Joints such as elbows and knees should be massaged using a circular motion.

For the stomach, buttocks, and chest/breast, apply the oil in a clockwise circular motion. You can follow the path of the large intestine for your abdomen area. Start from the right, move across and go down on the left. The circular motion will help stimulate the digestive system.

As you reach your feet (Pada Abhyanga), spend enough time on them. Your feet also contain essential marma points and they sustain most of your weight.

Ayurveda recommends abhyanga should be performed for a minimum of 15 minutes. After finishing the massage, allow the oil to deeply seep into the skin pop under the duvet to be lulled to Sleep you will awake with beautifully soft skin and a renewed energy.

The heady blend of Aromatherapy is designed to have a deeply calming effect on the mind & body. Tuck up under your duvet and spritz your pillow and bedding with your sleep dharma pillow mist. Mindfully inhale through your nose to the count of 4 and exhale slowly to the count of 6.

Connect to your Yoga Nidra practice using your QR code to move into a deep state of conscious awareness sleep, which is a deep state of relaxation helping to decrease anxiety and stress preparing the body for deep rest. A perfect sleep ritual that will help you drift off into a peaceful sleep and wake up feeling fresh and revitalised.

Yoga Nidra Meditation

Yoga Nidra or Yogic Sleep is a practice that promotes the body to relax deeply while the mind remains inwardly alert. During the practice breath awareness and mindfulness are key aspects to achieving a hypnagogic state – that magical time just before you fall asleep when the body is in deep relaxation whilst the mind is still reasonably lucid. Easily access this practice by scanning the QR Code above.

Guided by Suzie, the practice will begin with a Sankalpa (intention) followed by a focused breathwork and becoming aware of the sensations in the body. This will promote a deep state of relaxation, helping to decrease anxiety and stress and allowing you to drift off into a peaceful sleep, waking up feeling grounded and revitalised.
